The Council on International Relations affirmed that the right of the Palestinian people to have Jerusalem as the capital of their independent state is their right according to United Nations resolutions.

The council said in a statement issued today, Friday, that the measures taken by the Israeli occupation since the occupation of Jerusalem in 1967 are invalid and will not nullify the right of the Palestinian people to it.

In its statement, the Council indicated that the decisions of some countries to transfer their embassy to Jerusalem and recognize it as the capital of the occupying power are invalid according to Security Council Resolution
478, calling on these countries to retreat these illegal steps.

Yesterday, Thursday, coincided with the fortieth anniversary of the issuance of Security Council Resolution 478, in which the Security Council condemned the attempt by “Israel” to annex East Jerusalem and also called on member states
to withdraw their diplomatic missions from the city.
