clashes broke out today, Friday, between the occupation forces and citizens, in the Bab Al-Zawiya area in the center of Hebron, while the occupation tightened its military measures at the checkpoints spread in the Old City and connected to the Ibrahimi Mosque.
Local sources said: “The confrontations erupted after the occupation forces stationed at the entrance to Al-Shuhada Street fired stun grenades and poisonous gas towards the citizens, without causing any injuries.”
On the other hand, the occupation soldiers closed all gates leading to the Ibrahimi Mosque for the second day in a row, and prevented citizens from reaching it.
Yesterday, Thursday, the occupation forces attacked a number of citizens and prevented them from entering the Ibrahimi Mosque.
Local sources stated that the occupation forces have tightened their measures at the military checkpoints set up at the entrances to the Old City and its surroundings and at the gates of the mosque since yesterday, to prevent citizens from entering it and participating in the celebration of the Prophet’s birthday despite taking all preventive and public safety measures.
And the occupation forces are increasing the restrictions on worshipers heading to the Ibrahimi Mosque during holidays, religious events and Fridays, in an attempt to discourage them from heading towards the mosque, which has been targeted for decades as part of the expansion plan of settlement in the city.
Hebron is considered the second city after Jerusalem in the priorities of settlement targeting of the occupation authorities due to its historical and religious importance.
