The Council on International Relations – Palestine welcomed the US administration’s decision to return financial aid to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The council said in a statement that this decision is a correction of a mistake committed by the Trump administration, calling on the new administration to also move politically to pressure the occupation state to stop its aggression against the Palestinian people represented by the continuation of the occupation, settlements and siege.
The Council stressed the importance of financial support for UNRWA, which provides services to millions of Palestinian refugees until the right to return to their homes from which they were expelled, is fulfilled, a key issue within the conflict that has plagued the region for more than 70 years.
The Council urged countries that have reduced their funding for UNRWA to backtrack on their decisions, and the international community and donor countries to increase support for the agency, especially in light of the successive crises, especially the Corona crisis, which has greatly affected the region.
The US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken announced the resumption of US economic, development and humanitarian aid to the Palestinian people, including $ 150 million for the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA).
