
The Ministry of Education and Higher Education in Gaza has begun to apply the international study tools PISA to an experimental sample of students in 11 government schools with the participation of 560 students from the tenth grade in the governorates of the Gaza Strip, where the application will take place for a period of 3 days.
A team from the Ministry’s General Administration of Measurement, Evaluation and Examinations inspected the implementation process in the schools, where they met with students, teachers and supervisors monitoring the implementation of the study.
The Deputy Director General of Examinations, Jamal Youssef, said in a statement that reached together that the international study PISA is being carried out in a distinctive way, pointing out that the ministry had prepared schools in terms of equipping laboratories, training working staff, and publishing instructions and instructions for students and parents to make the implementation of the international PISA study in an appropriate manner.
He explained that the international study is applied in the governorates of the Gaza Strip simultaneously with the governorates of the Palestinian West Bank and Al-Quds Al-Sharif, pointing out that Palestine is participating for the first time in this international study, which measures students’ cognitive abilities in reading comprehension skills, mathematics, science and creative thinking.
He indicated that the aim of participating in this study is to obtain information and data about the reality of students’ performance and how to develop plans to develop the Palestinian educational system in light of the results of the study.
It is noteworthy that the PISA study was applied this year to an experimental sample, and the Ministry will apply it to a survey sample representing the study community in April and May for the next year 2022.
