The Ministry of Agriculture in Gaza warned today, Thursday, of a real environmental disaster that has actually occurred in the northern Gaza Strip, after the direct targeting by the Israeli occupation of the stores of Khudair companies for agricultural supplies of all kinds, especially those containing fertilizers, pesticides and plastic.
She said during a press conference she held today in the northern Gaza Strip that the occupation’s firing of artillery and phosphorous shells during the days of the recent Israeli aggression on Gaza, led to the outbreak of large fires in the warehouses of the Khudair companies in the northern Gaza Strip, which led to a complete set of fires for several days, which caused a leak Large amounts of toxic gases and chemicals.
For his part, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Agriculture, Dr. Ibrahim Al-Qudra, confirmed that the dangerous leakage of these toxic and dangerous substances led to pollution of the environment and damage to public health, as well as pollution of sustainable environment elements such as soil and aquifer water.
He pointed out that the current disaster has required all concerned authorities to evacuate the targeted area of its residents and farmers, due to the intensity of the emission of harmful odors that have direct impacts on public health.
He appealed to international and human rights institutions and all relevant authorities, especially the Global Environment Facility, to take the necessary measures as quickly as possible to address this disaster and the negative effects on humans, the environment and public health.
