Jamal Al-Khudari, head of the Popular Committee Against the Siege, affirmed that closing the Gaza Strip crossings by Israel is a collective punishment, exacerbating human and economic suffering, and preventing the arrival of vital necessities, food and medicine supplies.
Al-Khudari stressed in a press statement issued on Monday 5/24/2021 that the closure of the crossings (Karm Abu Salem and Beit Hanoun / Erez) contravenes all signed agreements and a flagrant violation of international law, and would impede the reconstruction process left by the Israeli aggression.
He pointed out that the Kerem Shalom crossing, which is the economic lifeline of Gaza, has been closed for 16 consecutive days, which reduced the work of the main power plant and exacerbated the fuel crisis for the station, and thus greatly reduced its ability to deliver electricity to homes and vital facilities, as the connection period became no You exceed 4 hours.
Al-Khudari added, “The danger is great to the animal production sector because of the serious shortage of fodder, which threatens this vital sector with annihilation. Al-
Khodari considered these measures a flagrant violation of international humanitarian law, and it comes at a very difficult and sensitive time where the aggression and the resulting heavy losses arrived according to preliminary estimates.” Hundreds of millions of dollars in direct losses from targeting residential buildings, towers, infrastructure, factories, and the agricultural, health, and educational sectors.
He stressed the need to join all efforts to oblige the Israeli occupation to fully open the crossings, and not to impede the passage of any of the requirements for the continuation of life and reconstruction.
“The international appeals, especially from the United Nations that started from Gaza, clearly expressed the humanitarian tragedy that the Strip is going through, the urgent need for continued food and medical supplies, and the serious work to open the crossings without restrictions,” Al-Khudari said.
