A delegation representing the Authority of Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners Affairs in Gaza, and the celebration of Jerusalem for the martyrs, prisoners and wounded, met today, Wednesday, with the Director of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the Gaza Strip, Miriam Miller.
The delegation reviewed the most prominent violations and crimes committed against prisoners, such as administrative detention, medical negligence, the escalation of the Israeli attack against them, repression, abuse, solitary confinement, confiscation of prisoners’ needs…etc.
The delegation demanded from the International Committee to express a clear position on the process of (escape) from Gilboa prison and the escalating attack against the prisoners in general and the prisoners of Islamic Jihad in particular, and to move seriously to put an end to the Israeli violations against the prisoners.
The delegation also called for the Red Cross to intervene to ensure the resumption of visits by the people of the Gaza Strip, which have been suspended for a year and a half.
For her part, the Director of the International Committee spoke about the role of the ICRC teams in following up the issues of prisoners and detainees in the occupation prisons and the most prominent activities in this field. She promised to pay attention to all of the above and to submit a memorandum to the concerned authorities in particular and to work as much as possible for the detainees and their humanitarian issues.
It is noteworthy that, in addition to the Director of the Red Cross, Fayez Al-Aqra’, advisor to the Director of the International Committee, was present.
The delegation of the Palestinian Prisoners Authority and Mahja al-Quds included Hassan Quneita, head of the management committee of the prisoners’ authority in the Gaza Strip, Abdel Nasser Farwana, member of the committee’s management committee, Yasser Mezher, director of activities at the Mahja al-Quds Foundation, and Tamer al-Zaanin, spokesman for Mahja al-Quds.
